Chrysler Group's Stop-Start Always Wins Red Light/Green Light Game

Chrysler Group introduces the Engine Stop-Start System, its take on wallet-conscious technology with a roughly 3 percent increase in fuel economy with a corresponding drop in emissions. The automaker achieves this with a finely-tuned system of engine-control monitoring. When the vehicle comes to a complete stop, the engine shuts off until a press of the accelerator automatically restarts the engine, the transmission following in less than half a second.

The system will hit dealerships as soon as this summer with the Jeep Cherokee V6 model, followed closely by its fall debut in the standard I4-powered 2015 Chrysler 200. While these models come equipped with Stop-Start technology, the driver can self-disable it at his or her discretion.
